Introduction to Experience and Workflow Studio
This article provides a structured overview of the lifecycle stages that an Experience undergoes within the Workflow Studio. Understanding these statuses is crucial for effectively troubleshooting and optimising your flows.
Active
Experiences in the Active state are currently progressing through the flow.
These experiences are actively executing actions and are engaging with recipients as per the flow’s configuration.
Complete
Experiences in the Complete state have successfully reached a desired end point in the flow.
This indicates that the flow executed as intended, without any unhandled issues.
Failed
Experiences in the Failed state encountered an unhandled issue. For example:
Failed experiences do not affect other experiences in the flow.
You can designs flows to handle these issues and continue experiences with outcome paths.
Errored
Experiences in the Errored state encountered an unrecoverable issue that likely affects other experiences as well. This can be caused by external dependencies or configuration issues. For example:
Errored experiences indicate broader flow or system-level issues that need to be resolved to prevent further failures.
The differences between Complete, Failed, and Errored experiences
While all of these experience lifecycle states indicate the experience has stopped; they all indicate different reasons why:
- Complete experiences ended successfully; following the paths designed in the flow builder to the end points
- Failed experiences encountered issues at a node, and were not handled using outcome paths. Turning on outcome paths can continue these experiences through to Completion.
- Errored experiences encountered unrecoverable issues and in some cases can move flows themselves into errored states that need manual intervention.
By understanding these lifecycle states, you can better diagnose and address issues in your flows, ensuring smoother and more reliable workflows. For more on troubleshooting experiences, see Navigate the Experience Details Page.
